From manual searches to complete confidence:
how Cavvanba transformed environmental due diligence

Ross Nicolson
Principal Contaminated Land Consultant
Introduction & context
Founded in 2009, Cavvanba operates with a dedicated team of eight professionals focused on contaminated land management, including an accredited auditor who reviews work prepared by other consultants.
Their projects range from large-scale government investigations and remediation programs through to smaller desktop Preliminary Site Investigations for residential clients.
Cavvanba operate in a high-pressure environment where they balance tight delivery timeframes with the need to remain cost competitive, particularly on smaller projects. There is also a level of complexity in managing client expectations, as not all clients understand the varying quality of outputs across environmental consultants.
The challenge before Lotsearch
One of their key pain points has always been delivering accurate desktop information within tight timeframes. Client expectations for fast turnaround can create pressure, particularly when relying on traditional data sources.
Before using Lotsearch, Cavvanba’s process was highly manual and inefficient, where they had to source information from multiple providers, often waiting for materials such as historical aerial photographs to be physically posted, then scanned and manually aligned for reporting purposes. These images were not georeferenced, making them difficult to work with and increasing the risk of inconsistency.
It was a slow, outdated process that required constant follow-up, particularly when chasing suppliers for historical aerial data.
The solution – why Lotsearch
Lotsearch stood out by consolidating all relevant desktop information into a single, comprehensive report.
Instead of managing multiple data sources, Cavvanba now have access to a ‘one-stop shop’ that brings together online searches, street directories and historical aerial imagery in a clear and structured format. Additional information, such as council records and title searches, can also be integrated as needed.
Cavvanba primarily use Lotsearch Environmental Risk Reports, which have become a core part of their workflow.
The experience of working with Lotsearch
The quality and reliability of Lotsearch reports have been consistently high says Ross.
“We have complete confidence in the accuracy of the data provided and, to date, have not had to request any amendments due to incorrect information. This level of consistency is critical in our line of work, where decisions rely heavily on the integrity of the underlying data”.
The results
Lotsearch has had a direct and meaningful impact on Cavvanba’s projects.
On one occasion, reviewing historical aerial imagery within a Lotsearch report on a project inherited from another consultant revealed that the site had previously operated as a quarry, later filled with building and demolition waste, including asbestos. This insight fundamentally changed the direction of the project overnight.
More broadly, outsourcing this process to Lotsearch has allowed us to focus on our core expertise, knowing that the data we rely on is both accurate and comprehensive.
Ross ends on the fact that the greatest benefit of partnering with Lotsearch has been increased confidence in decision-making. When auditing other consultants’ work, the ability to cross-check their findings against a Lotsearch report provides an additional layer of assurance and strengthens their overall assessment process.
In three words?
Key. Reliable. Thorough.
Outsourcing this process to Lotsearch has allowed us to focus on our core expertise, knowing that the data we rely on is both accurate and comprehensive.
